In July 2018, the government published proposals for all school children in England to be given training in first aid and life-saving skills.  Click here to read the news article.  Meon Valley HeartStart offer life-saving training for free and have already trained hundreds of children across the region.

We work with children as young as 3-4 years old and offer sessions to pre-schools, infant schools, junior schools and senior schools.

Whenever we work with schools we liaise closely with the staff to integrate the session into the curriculum and to ensure that the content is appropriate for the age groups. Courses can be provided in larger year groups or smaller classroom groups dependent on the schools requirements.

Generally for pre-schools and infant schools we concentrate on how to approach a medical emergency safely, how to call for an ambulance and how to put someone into the recovery position in a session that lasts no longer than an hour.

For junior schools we offer 3 one-hourly sessions which in addition to what is covered for infant schools also covers how to deal with serious bleeding and choking and how to recognize the signs of a heart attack.  We also teach CPR and introduce defibrillation.

At senior school level the session covers the same content but can be covered in two one hourly sessions fitting into the school curriculum.
